Things You'll Need:
- social security #
- Driver's license # if you have one
- Proof of income earned (i.e. W2 forms)
- You and your spouse's income tax return from last year
- If you are a dependent you will need your parent's income tax return from last year
- bank statements

Step 1
First go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and pull up the home page for the FAFSA web site. On the home page you will find three steps that you will need to go through in order to apply for the grant correctly: 1)Before filling out the FAFSA 2)Filling out the FAFSA 3) Follow-up to the FAFSA.

Step 2
Before filling out the FAFSA: Scroll down to this step and go through each of the items listed below. These items will help you determine how you fill out the information on the actually FAFSA form. Before you even begin you will need to find out the deadlines for the semester you are applying for, determine if you are a dependent, find the codes for the schools you want to apply the grants to, apply for a PIN number so you can check the status of your application or go back to your application if you have to stop halfway through, and fill out a practice FAFSA which will help you make sure you have all the information you need to fill out the actual FAFSA.

Step 3
Filling out the FAFSA: During this step you will use your PIN number to sign in and begin your application. If you have completed a practice FAFSA you can use it as a model and for double checking your information.

Step 4
Follow up to your FAFSA: This will allow you check the status of your application to find out if you have been approved for a grant or if you are ineligible. You can also go back and make corrections to your FAFSA through this step, change school codes and print your signature page.
