Host a Holiday Cookie Exchange
Host a Holiday Cookie Exchange

We may have dreams of being like Martha Stewart with the perfect holiday decorations, and mounds of holiday cookies displayed like a pro, but who has the time? If you host a holiday cookie exchange, you could have an abundance of cookies, without spending a fortune, and best of all, have a great time with friends.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Share some holiday cheer!
    Share some holiday cheer!

Decide how many friends you would like to invite. It's easiest if there is an even number. Have each person bring a dozen of their favorite holiday cookies, excluding cut-outs.

  2. Step 2
    Many hands make light work!
    Many hands make light work!

The day before you have your party, make the dough for cut-out cookies. You don't have to fuss about everything being perfect. All you really need is a tidy kitchen and bathroom. These are your friends after all, and it's meant to be a casual party. It's your choice if you would like to serve snacks or food, but I would definitely have some beverages on hand. Once everyone arrives, start rolling out the dough. You can have a station for that with cookie cutters and a different station for decorating. Once the cookies are finished, divide them evenly between everyone. If you have 6 friends over, you will all get several dozen cookies. My recipe for cut-outs makes 6 dozen, so you could conceivably end up with a significant amount of a variety of cookies.

  3. Step 3

If you and your friends exchange gifts then kill two birds with one stone and do that at the same time. You could even have everyone bring a copy of their recipe and exchange that too! You can make it as low key or as high brow as you desire.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have everyone bring containers to take their cookies home in.
  • Do it well in advance of the holidays and freeze the cookies until you are ready to serve them.
