Step 1
Newspaper works as a great alternative for wrapping paper when nothing else is around. The comics provide color if you feel that black and white is too dull.
-
Step 2
Have a brown paper grocery bag? Cut it up and use it to wrap a present. Decorate it with a colorful bow and you're all ready to go!
-
Step 3
Do inventory around your house for wrapping paper that you already own. A lot of people don't realize that they already have dozens of rolls at home. They may be hiding on you, but they are likely there to be found. Don't go out and waste money on something you already own, is the bottom line.
-
Step 4
Save tissue paper from gifts you receive. These can make unique and colorful forms of wrapping paper.
-
Step 5
Save wrapping paper from the presents that you receive. Make sure it's not too crinkly and open your presents with care. You'll be surprised at how much you can save!
-
Step 6
Find your local dollar store and pick up wrapping paper there. Wrapping paper can be VERY expensive for the little amount that you actually get. Spend a dollar and get the same amount, if not more.

on 6/28/2009 if i know i won't use the super large gift bags that i have from previous years, i have cut them into smaller pieces to wrap smaller gifts. in addition to saving tissue paper and wrapping paper, save the ribbons from gifts you recieve, too!
