Use dice to play 10,000 Dice with your family.

Ten Thousand is a dice game designed for the whole family. The rules are simple to follow. All you will need to play are six dice and paper to keep score on. The first person to receive a score of 10,000 wins the game. You can play with a lower scoring point as well, such as 1,000 or 5,000 points. This game is similar to Farkle, Yahtzee! and Boxcar.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide who will go first. Pick someone or roll a die to determine the order of play. The game continues counterclockwise.

    • 2

Roll all of the dice. The person who begins the game rolls all six dice. You can choose to keep one or all of the dice. Follow the scoring sheet in Step 6 to keep track of which dice to keep. For example, if you roll 6-6-4-1-1-5, you can decide to keep the 1-1 and roll the remaining four dice.

    • 3

Decide whether to keep playing or pass your dice to the next person. If you keep the dice and roll again, you must receive a scoring die. If you do not, you will lose all points you have saved. The dice will then go to the next player. You can choose to end your turn and add up the score you have placed to the side. Then pass your dice to the next player.

    • 4

Play your turn until you have decided to pass or do not receive a scoring die. If you score all six dice and place them aside, you can continue your turn by rolling all of the dice again. Make sure to keep a tally of your score if you decide to keep playing.

    • 5

Keep score. One person keeps score for everyone who is playing. The first person who receives 10,000 points wins the game.

    • 6

      Follow this scoring format: 1 = 100 points; 5 = 50 points; Three 1s (in one roll) = 1,000 points; multiply three of the same number by 100, for example, 5, 5, 5 = 500 points; and a straight (1 through 6) = 3,000 points.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a plastic cup to make rolling the dice easier.

My wife has this game on an old palm pilot and I've become addicted, playing against the palm. In that game, three pair (ie. two 2's, two 4's, two five's) will get you 1200 pts. A straight in the Palm game is worth 2000, not 3000, which I like the smaller number better. Also, the game requires you to come up with an initial score to get into the game. I like setting that at 750, but you can do 250, 500, or 1,000, also. 500 or 750 to start seem to me to be the best settings. Finally, I play this game against the Palm or against my wife, but I'm planning on bringing it out for a table of several people at the next family gathering.

ssister21nall: Rolling six identical die wins the game outright, however you can choose to play that it scores only 5000 points, your choice...just get all players to agree before playing.

What if all the dice are of the same numeral?
