How to Practice Library Etiquette
A library has a lot to offer visitors including computer use, newspaper access and the availability to borrow wonderful books. When going to a library, you want to make sure that you respect the quiet and privacy that the visitors are looking for. While many people practice proper etiquette in a library, there are some that don't.

Put your books back where others can find them. If you take books off the shelves and put them in random places, not only are other visitors unable to find them if they want them but the librarians have to go to the effort of putting them back. Whenever you're finished reading a book, make sure to put it back on the shelf, or put it in the "Book Return" slot.

Keep your music on low. While visitors to the library don't mind if you listen to music, many do mind if they can hear it. Keep the volume on low so that those around you trying to read or do work can do so without hearing the song you're listening to. It can be a major distraction in an otherwise quiet library.

Stay in order when using the computers. Many libraries have a sign-in sheet so that you know when it's your turn; however, some try to jump ahead to grab the next available computer. You should wait your turn and let those who arrived ahead of you to use them first.

Keep your papers and books organized when working at a table. Many libraries don't have enough seats or tables for everyone to use, so if you're at a big table where other people can sit down, leave your papers in a pile. If you have to spread them out, keep them in a small area so others can have their own space.

Throw out your garbage. Some people eat snacks, drink water or do paperwork and leave the trash on the table. Before you leave, make sure to throw everything out and double-check that you didn't leave anything behind.

Tips & Warnings
Make an effort to be ready to leave before the library is going to close. If you wait until the very last minute, that means that the librarians are going to have to wait for you to gather your items then check out our books before they can leave.
