Things You'll Need:
- Work Portfolio
- Home Office in a quiet room
- Daily Planner
-
Step 1
Create a work portfolio. In order to be successful with your work you need to be well organized and have sample work readily available. Depending on the type of freelance work you are doing, this might not be possible. For instance if you do freelance writing, you would make a portfolio with samples of work that portray all of your skills.
-
Step 2
Connect with others. Naturally, you aren't going to get as much work if nobody knows who you are. There are many different sites online that you can join for free and network your business or skills. Chances are there is someone looking for a person with your skills. See the resource links below for some great networking sites.
-
Step 3
Join freelance temp sites. There are companies designated to helping land you freelance work. Some are free while others require a small fee. It's best to choose whichever one works best for you.
-
Step 4
Keep your home office just that. It can be tough trying to work while at home so designating a room or area away from the busy traffic rooms will help immensely. If you don't have a complete room to spare, use your imagination. Rearrange your furniture if need be to allow your own little corner for your work.
-
Step 5
Keep a daily planner at your desk at all times. This works great in helping you stay organized because you can jot everything down that you do not want to forget. Say you get two freelance jobs at the same time and worry about getting them confused. Write down the information and details in your planner. Also note the deadline and other important specific information.
