Survive Holiday Shopping As A Single Parent
Survive Holiday Shopping As A Single Parent

In this How-To Guide you get simple tips to have a stress free Holiday season... even as a Single Parent!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Step 1 is to remember how many other Single Parents there are in the world today. Over 1/3 of children are raised in Single Parent homes... You are definitely not alone! Keep a positive attitude and focus on the Blessings in your life. Determine within Your Self to have a smooth, enjoyable, Christmas or Celebration.

  2. Step 2

Next Step is to set a budget for the Holidays. Take a look at your finances and choose an amount you can afford to spend reasonably on each child and member of your family. Each of your children should obviously be given an equal amount. Do not just plan on using a credit card and getting yourself into debt... that's always a bad idea!

  3. Step 3

Plan, plan, plan! Get out the old spiral notebook and a trusty pen and prepare to get organized. Create a list entitled, "People" Organize this list into categories such as "Family", "Friends", "Co-Workers", "Church Members" etc... however the list will make the most sense to You.

  4. Step 4

Write down everyone you intend to give gifts/cards to or you'll visit this Holiday Season. Include a hyphen next to each name and what each person will receive. Do price comparisons and Gift research on the Internet! Your list might say, "send card", "Lego - Star Wars Gift, or Card with $10", as examples.

  5. Step 5

Once everyone on your list has something beside their name and a dollar amount next to each person, the hard part is over! Now, you can take your Superlist with you while you shop and use it to make Gift purchases online! Check off each name as you go... Now, that was a snap!

Tips & Warnings
  • Save a little extra money and get yourself something nice also... like a massage at the local day spa/salon!!!
  • Let your kids know that they each have an equal budget for gifts they receive. So, no arguing or fussing about who got more or less!
  • Teach your children to give back to the community... Gather up some old toys/clothes and take them to your local children's home or the charity of your choice.
