Have you ever gone outside on a cold, wintry day and tried to start your car and nothing happens? One of the most frequent causes of cars not starting is the corrosion that forms on the battery hookups. Cleaning the battery wires yourself is a way to save money on car repairs. This is a simple procedure that can save you time, frustration , stress and money.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 can of Coke
  • 1 towel
  • pliers
  1. Step 1

Raise the hood of your car. If you can't find out how to raise the hood, consult the owners manual. Clean any white or greenish liquid off the top of the battery.

  2. Step 2

Unhook the battery cables clamps and pour small amount of coke on the corrosion. If you can't remove the battery cable clamps you may need pliers. The coke will eat the corrosion almost magically. Let the coke liquid work for a few minutes.

  3. Step 3

Blot the battery with the towel. Clean up all the liquid from the battery. Wipe off the battery thoroughly. Reconnect the battery wires.
    Shut the hood.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a simple procedure and you can learn to do this!
  • It is much better to be proactive in this small car maintenance procedure, than wait until the car won't start and you have to replace the battery.
  • Be careful to dry the battery thoroughly!
