Remove a Judgement From a Credit Report

Judgements on your credit report will drag your credit score through the mud and the muck. One way to improve your credit score is to have as many of those judgements removed as possible. Be aware that valid judgements can not be removed. They can, however, be marked as paid and that will look good to those reviewing your credit report. The errors you find on your credit report as false judgements can be removed. It will take some patience on your part, but it will be worth it.

Things You'll Need

  • Copy of your credit report from all 3 major credit reporting bureaus
  • Phone
  • Stamps
  • Verification of paid debt

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a copy of your credit report from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion so you can inspect them. Are any of the judgements shown incorrect? If so, proceed to step 2.

    • 2

Contact the creditor, either by phone or by letter. Tell them of your finding and back up your claim that the charge is not valid. If they argue, offer to mail (or fax) them your proof. (paid bill, etc)

    • 3

Send a letter to each of the credit bureaus where you found the error(s) explaining your claim. Include any paperwork that backs up your claim. Send this letter with signature required so you have proof of it's arrival. They are required to investigate your claim and if errors were found, they will send you a free copy of a corrected report.

Ask the credit bureau to send a copy of the corrected report to any business that had accessed the report in it's erroneous state. If they take too long doing this, you may need to take that step upon yourself. Sadly, nobody but you will care about improving your credit score as quickly as possible.
