Herbal Shampoo

My family's been striving to think of ways not only for saving money, but also for living more environmentally friendly. It is fun, discovering natural ways to make soaps, detergents, and shampoos. That is how I began making my own cleaning products. This is an easy method for making your own shampoo.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 qt saucepan
  • 4 ounces castille soap flakes
  • dried herbs of any variety
  1. Step 1

Choose your herb. Any type of dried herb will work. I love using lavender or roses. Be creative. I'm even planning to try using various cooking herbs like mint or rosemary. Just make sure you dry them out before using.

  2. Step 2

Steep your herbs in one quart of boiling water for at least twenty minutes. Treat this step like you were making tea. A sieve works great for steeping. You are making an herbal infusion which will transfer nicely into your shampoo.

  3. Step 3

Pour water over your soap flakes and stir to dissolve. When your mixture cools, you can add to plastic bottles for storage. These shampoos make a great gift and you'll feel great knowing you are not using harmful chemicals in your hair.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use metal containers or metal utensils if possible.
  • Make sure you let your mixture cool before adding it to your bottles.
  • Don't be surprised if your shampoo is not as thick as the shampoo you buy in the store--don't let that stop you though--you will LOVE the way your hair feels using this mixture.
