With enviable bounce and volume, curly hair can be worn in a bevy of different styles. Whereas women with fine, straight hair regularly seek out products and cuts that add volume to their locks, women with curly hair have the luxury of hair with plenty of natural body. There are, however, times when those with curly hair want a simple, sleek style. Wrapping curly hair makes for a classic, chic look that does not require extensive effort.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shampoo Conditioner Leave-in conditioner Comb Straightening lotion Hair wrap Bobby pins Hair dryer Hair spray
  1. Step 1

Shampoo and conditioner your hair. It should be damp when you wrap it.

  2. Step 2

Apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair. The extra conditioner will help to control curly hair, keeping loose ends in place. When your hair is weighed down by the conditioner, it will be more likely to remain in the wrap.

  3. Step 3

Comb your hair straight. It should be free of tangles and excess water.

  4. Step 4

Put straightening lotion or serum on your hair. This will help your hair to cooperate during the wrapping process.

  5. Step 5

Use the comb to part your hair from left to right. The part should go over the top of your head, serving to separate your hair into front and back sections.

  6. Step 6

Begin at your forehead and brush your hair in one direction. You can choose to brush the hair in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. Whichever direction you choose, you are creating a spiral of hair as you wrap it around your head.

  7. Step 7

Continue the spiral to the back of your head, brushing your hair in the same direction.

  8. Step 8

Put the hair wrap over your hair after you have finished brushing it into the spiral.

  9. Step 9

Place bobby pins throughout your hair to contain errant hairs.

  10. Step 10

Dry your hair completely, using the blow dryer. The heat will set the hair, helping it to remain in place.

  11. Step 11

Spray your entire head with hairspray. This will keep the style in place for several hours.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid water on your head throughout the day. If your hair gets wet, it will curl up and try to escape the wrap.

on 9/26/2009 I have long frizzy hair. While in high school I wrapped my hair EVERY night. As I got older I was encouraged to cut and perm my hair for uniform control. Now I have gone back to long frizzy hair. I have tried to explain to my husband How-to-wrap-curly-hair with no success. Now he can read this article and maybe understand. It REALLY works. My African American friend showed me how to do it in school. Thanks!
