If you use Ubuntu for your desktop, you may have noticed that the new Hotmail update (from October/November 2008 release) disabled the ability to use Hotmail with your Firefox web browser. Here is a quick and easy way to fix this so that you can once again enjoy Hotmail with your Ubuntu desktop.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Any version of Firefox web browser
  • Ubuntu
  1. Step 1

Open your Firefox web browser and in the address bar type:
    about:config

  2. Step 2

Click on the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button (because you will be careful!!)

  3. Step 3

Next to Filter, type "general.useragent.vendor" and hit the enter key. You should see one line under the Preference Name below.

  4. Step 4

You want to change the value for the Vendor from "Ubuntu" to "Firefox". You can do this by double clicking on the value "Ubuntu". This should bring up a small window. Change the value to "Firefox" in this window and click on the "OK" button. Close your Firefox web browser and reopen it. Enjoy Hotmail once again!
