It is very painful to be bitten by a nursing baby. It is also true that some babies become biters and hurt their siblings who yelp when bitten. The sound makes the baby laugh and this becomes a source of pleasure and power for them. They don't have evil intentions but instead it becomes a game to them. I have seen supposed grown ups bite the baby back thinking this will cure them. It doesn't instead it just teaches them to bite more.

Things You'll Need:

  • a hint from great-grandma
  1. Step 1

I asked one of the grandmothers in the family what to do when my 3 month old teething infant mistook my nipples for a teething ring. His teeth were like little razors and wow did it hurt.

  2. Step 2

Grandmother, who had 6 children, knew exactly what to do. She said, "Just squeeze his nose closed. He has too breathe and he will learn fast not to do this anymore since he won't like not being able to catch his breathe!" Okay, she had a thick Italian accent and what she really said was, "Squeeza his nose. He will let go! He gotta breathe!"

  3. Step 3

She was right. He looked startled and insulted and never bit anybody again.
