Few things in life are as fun or rewarding as playing guitar. But if you play guitar every day you will eventually notice a build up of dirt and just general grossness on your guitars fret board. This can affect how easy it is to play the guitar, as well as the overall sound the strings give off. But the good news is that cleaning your fret board can be fast and easy! Here's how!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A cloth or rag
  • Some guitar cleaner
  • A toothbrush
  1. Step 1

Take your guitar cleaner spray and spray a good amount on the first five frets of your guitar.

  2. Step 2

Take your toothbrush and scrub (lightly) the first five frets of the guitar. This will help to get the bulk of the grim off your fret board.

  3. Step 3

Work your way up at 5 frets at a time doing step's one and two. When you have finished the entire fret board, move on to step four.

  4. Step 4

Take your cloth and wet it with your guitar cleaner fluid. Next take your cloth and work slowly over the entire fret board much in the same manner you did in step two.

  5. Step 5

After the fret board has been cleaned of all grim, take the cloth and wipe the strings down to make sure they are clean as well before you begin playing again. This will ensure a longer amount of time between future cleanings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Spray the guitar cleaner only on five frets at a time
  • Work over the wet frets with your toothbrush
  • Wet a cloth with your guitar cleaner and work over the fret board slowly.
  • Clean and excess film off of the strings before you begin playing.
  • Do not rub the fret board hard with the cloth or toothbrush, as you will risk damaging the wood.
