How to Get a Press Pass to a Major Event
Just because you work at a newspaper, magazine or journal doesn't mean that each employee is automatically eligible for a press pass into every major event, and sometimes the quantity of press passes needed can hinder the plans for your media employees. However, if proper procedures are followed, gaining a press pass to a major event can be that much easier.

How to Get a Press Pass to a Major Event
-
1
Let your boss or employer know what type of event you want to attend, how it will help the company and where the event is being held. Sometimes your employer's reputation or boss' networking capabilities can get you that much-needed press pass without you doing anything but waiting for someone to hand it to you.

2
Contact the organizer of the major event to let her know that you want a press pass to get into this event. Most companies want to know why you should be able to get in free with a press pass and about your credentials, so keep a resume or writing clips on hand.

3
Visit the media area of the website where the event is occurring. Sometimes big events will have a press location where an application can be filled out and submitted. If you don't see a press or media link on the website, contact the organizer to see whether there is one.

4
Check the requirements for using the press entrance for a major event. Sometimes a press pass can be turned away just for having items that security is not allowing, such as digital cameras, video cameras, pocketknives or biased paraphernalia. You don't want to risk being turned away from getting a press pass by not following the rules.
-
5
Keep your work identification and business cards on you at all times when visiting a major event. If you didn't have the opportunity beforehand to apply or ask for a press pass, security or the company may let you into the event as long as you have proper proof that you work for the press.
