Things You'll Need:
- A little research
-
Step 1
Buy age appropriate gifts, there are age labels on kids gift for many reasons, including safety and ability
-
Step 2
Find out what the child's interests are. If they have a new interest and don't have many toys for it, buy that. If a child has liked a certain theme for quite a while, I'd steer away from buying yet another "Thomas the Train", fill in the blank.
-
Step 3
If you have had a child at that age and can remember a specific toy that your kid loved, buy that toy. Chances are good that another child will enjoy it as well.
-
Step 4
Include batteries. Many toys do not come with batteries. Kids want to play with their toys right away. Make the parents happy and buy extra batteries too.
-
Step 5
Tape the gift receipt to the toy, don't just toss it in the gift bag. It makes it easier to return if the child doesn't like it, has 2 of them, etc.
-
Step 6
Personalize gifts. Some kids really get a kick out of seeing their name on an item. These gifts are usually ones that get kept for many years to come.
-
Step 7
Buy your toys all at once, at one place. Places like Toys R Us have coupons in their ads this time of year for a free gift card when you purchase beyond a certain dollar amount. You can use that gift card for yet another gift.

on 12/1/2008 I love your tips. Especially #4! Batteries are important! The kids will be happy they can play with the toy immediately, and the parents will be happy they didn't have to buy batteries.
