Make Donuts out of Canned Biscuits (a Quick and Easy Recipe)

I don't know anyone who doesn't like donuts. We live in a small town, though, and the nearest Krispy Kreme is fifteen miles away. Granted, fifteen miles isn't much, but when you're craving donuts on a lazy weekend morning, you don't want to get dressed and drive that far to get them. I recently remembered a recipe that my aunt used to make for me. Do it yourself donuts made with canned biscuits. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Canned biscuits (add a healthy twist, and buy reduced fat whole wheat biscuits)
  • Oil for frying
  • Pan or pot for frying
  • Your choice of "coatings" (we use cinnamon sugar, but you could use just sugar, sugar & cocoa, etc.)
  • Brown paper bag or plastic bowl with tight-fitting lid
  • Slotted spoon

Instructions

    • 1

Put your pan or pot on the stove (the size depends on how many donuts you want to fry at one time).

    • 2

      Put the burner on high.

    • 3

While the oil heats up, pop open your can of donuts.

    • 4

With your thumbs and forefingers, form a hole in the center of the doughy raw biscuit.

    • 5

Put the donuts into the oil (gently, to avoid splashing).

    • 6

Cook until golden brown (flipping at least once).

    • 7

Remove from oil using a slotted spoon.

    • 8

Put the hot donuts into the brown paper bag.

    • 9

Add your toppings of choice (in our case, cinnamon sugar).

    • 10

      Fold bag closed.

    • 11

      Shake!

    • 12

Remove donuts from the bag and serve on a plate.
