Dating Rules for Teenagers
In the world of teenage dating, it's necessary for parents to set clear and concise rules. Although your teenagers may not always follow the rules, it's still a good idea to discuss your expectations prior to allowing them to date. Your teenager will understand what is required of him and may surprise you by living up to your expectations. Here are some tried and trusted dating rules for the teenager in your life.

1
Suggest that your teenager go on group dates. This is the easiest rule for your teenager to follow, because she will naturally want to hang out with her friends. It keeps them out of potential trouble because there's usually safety in numbers.

2
Set a curfew. Most parents set a curfew of midnight or earlier for their teenagers. This curfew can be earlier on school nights or later on weekends or for school events. Make sure to communicate this with your teenager clearly, so there is no misunderstanding.

Chaperon younger teenagers. It's perfectly appropriate to chaperon your teenager, because he is still prone to immature thinking. When chaperoning, take a step back and try not to beam at them the entire time. Make it more of a family event, including your spouse and other children, and go somewhere like an arcade, where the entire family can have fun. Try not to be obvious.

Tell them to keep their pants zipped up and the dresses down. This rule may sound old fashioned, but there's no harm in giving it out. Your children are especially likely to remember your words at the moment of temptation. Discuss with your teenager what she can and can't do. If you think kissing is OK, then be candid with her about that. It's a good idea to have the birds and the bees talk with your teenager before she begins dating. Be open and expect honesty back.

5
Ask your child to call when he gets there. Send your child with your cell phone, and some change for a pay phone. Express to him that it's important to you to know when he has arrived at the location, even if it's a place that he always goes. Ask him to call you if he is going to come home later than curfew.

6
Find out who your child is dating. It's good to meet her and also to know her parents and their phone number, in the event of an emergency. Invite her in and find out what she is like.

Know the location of the date, and a land-line phone number where he can be reached.
