Step 1
Find the item you are looking for. There may be numerous items listed that match your search. Pick the one that is the least flashy. Stay away from the sellers who pay extra to have their listing show up in bold. These products tend to get more bids, thus raising the price, because they catch the buyer's eye.
-
Step 2
Click the link that opens the item's description. At the top, near the picture of the item, click "Watch in my eBay." Do not bid yet.
-
Step 3
Go to "My eBay." Here you will find your item listed under "Items I am Watching." This will tell you exactly how much longer the auction will run.
-
Step 4
Be at your computer roughly 5 minutes prior to when the auction is scheduled to end. Open the item page. Refresh the page every 30 seconds or so. This will enable you to see any rise in the item's price. Do not place your bid until you are 45 seconds or closer to the auction's end time. When you place your bid, do not enter the lowest possible bid. Instead, type in the maximum amount you are willing to pay. By entering your "max bid" at the very end of the auction, you have just insured that you will either definitely win the auction, or that if you are out-bid, it is because the price has gotten too high.
