Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

The first and most important move is to talk to the mom and see what things she would like help with, and any guidelines she would like the volunteers to follow. i.e. always using purelle prior to entering the house. Please remember that the babies will more than likely be pre-mature and there may be things that need to be done while the babies are in the hospital.

  2. Step 2

Contact your list of volunteers and arrange a meeting to go over things that will be helpful to the new mom.

  3. Step 3

Make a schedule on poster board along with a list of things that the new mom would like help with.

  4. Step 4

Provide the new mom and all volunteers with the schedule and list of responsibilities.

  5. Step 5

Do not forget that often the help that is needed the most is compaionship.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some things that would be helpful for the new mom is for everyone to wash their hands to their elbows and use purelle prior to touching the babies or anything that comes in contact with the children.
  • Washing bottles and making formula.
  • Doing laundry
  • Cooking meals
  • Have someone go over to the house every day for at least three hours to give the mom some time to shower and to help with feedings.
  • The hardest time is when the babies first come home as they are on a three hour schedule.
  • Remind volunteers that if they or anyone in their family has been sick that they will need to cancel their time, as the children can get sick very easily.
