This year it might be difficult to find things to be thankful for. Even though it's thanksgiving, stress can get in the way of gratitude. Many families will have money woes this season. Here is how to be thankful even when things are going crazy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set a goal. You can start a gratitude journal, or try to find so many things a day to be thankful for. With the news always telling us what is wrong, it's difficult to find things to be thankful for unless you make it a priority to do so.

  2. Step 2

Notice the little things. So often we focus on the fact that we haven't won an emmy award, or we don't live in a mansion. Find a hundred little things to make you happy. Surround yourself with art, books, & family & friends.

  3. Step 3

Take time out. Go for a nature walk, or just take a few seconds to breathe. It may be difficult to be grateful simply because you don't have the time or you are always on the go.

  4. Step 4

Recognize how you feel. Does being thankful make you smile? Does it make your day go better? How has your mood changed? If it has a positive effect & you recognize that, you're more likely to be in the habit.

Tips & Warnings
  • Being grateful is something that we think about at Thanksgiving. However, it can have a positive effect all year round. Happiness is contagious.

on 11/27/2008 I think we tend to put too much emphasis on monetary things instead of what is really important and that is FAMILY and good health. Thanks for this and I hope enough people read this and take it to heart and ENJOY what they HAVE and stop focusing on what they DONT have....
