Are you ready for a new look but don't have hundreds of dollars to pay for a professional makeup consultation? The good news is there are a variety of ways to get a free beauty makeover right in your home town. You can find out what makeup colors look best with your complexion and what hairstyle and color are most flattering to you. All without paying a penny! Here are some simple ways to get a free beauty makeover.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Visit a Glamourshots Photography Studio.

If you don't mind buying a few photos, you can get a complete makeover done by Glamourshots photography studios before having your photo taken. Glamourshots is a group of franchised sites that take glamorous photos of you after giving you a makeover. The makeover consists of a makeup consultation and application, hairstyling, and wardrobe change. The result will be some of the best photos of your life. It's a fun way to spend an afternoon with a group of friends and you'll have some great photos to take home to remember your day.

  2. Step 2

Set Up a Cosmetic Consultation at a Makeup Counter.

Department store makeup counters love to give free cosmetic consultations and makeovers. This gives you an opportunity to try a variety of expensive, name brand cosmetic colors without obligation to buy. You'll also learn about which makeup shades flatter your skin tone and how to use various skin care products to keep you skin healthy. Next time you're at your local department store, stop at a Lancome, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, or Clinique counter and set up a free appointment for a beauty makeover. Even better, set up several appointments and see which makeover you like the best.

  3. Step 3

Be a Guinea Pig at a Cosmetology School.

Cosmetology students need volunteers to help refine their makeover skills. Call some local cosmetology schools in your area and see if you can volunteer yourself as a makeover subject. Of course this is a bit riskier than having a highly trained beauty consultant with experience do the job, but you might be very pleased with the results. Cosmetology schools generally need volunteers for makeup application, hair cut, and hair coloring. Be sure to communicate ahead of time your limitations. If you have long blond hair and they want to color your hair black and give you a pixie haircut, you may want to reconsider.

  4. Step 4

Visit a Merle Norman Makeup Studio.

Merle Norman is a franchised makeup studio found in most cities nationwide. When you visit a Merle Norman studio, you'll sit down with a knowledgeable beauty consultant and discuss your beauty goals. The consultant will determine what skin care products and makeup shades are best for your skin and complexion. She'll then show you step-by-step how to apply the colors she's chosen for you. There's no obligation to buy anything at these consultations and chances are you'll learn a lot about makeup and skin care as well as which makeup shades are right for you. You consultant will give you a full list of the cosmetics she used in case you should want to purchase them in the future.
