How to Keep Awake While Working The Graveyard shift
Working the graveyard shift is not for everyone. Some people rather to work during the daytime instead of nights. There are others that do not have a choice. Working the graveyard shift may be the only convenient time that they can work.

Some people work the graveyard shifts outside of the home, while others work right in their home. Working late at nights may be the time that is most convenient. For people who work at home, that may be the time when the house is mostly quiet. Working the graveyard shift can get boring sometimes, especially if its not busy. There are things that can help to keep boredom, and sleep away during your late night shift. Gather a list of things that you think will be of interest to you, during your shift.

The best thing to do before starting your graveyard shift, is to get adequate sleep. When you are well rested, you will be more alert and ready for the long haul. If you only work on the graveyard shift, you should make sure that you get some sleep during the day.

Getting adjusted to working nights instead of days, will take some time. To help you sleep during the days, use a window drapery that is really dark, to block out sunlight. Now, to block out the outside noise, use one of those box fans, that will generate enough noise to block out any disturbing noise.

Depending on the nature of the job, listening to music would be a great option. Be careful of the type of music that you listen to. Certain music will make you get too relaxed. Play something that will keep you awake.

If during your shift, you feel sleepy, get some cold water and splash your face. This is great for keeping you awake for a while longer. The cold water will do you good, plus the walk to the bathroom is a great way to walk out the sleep.

Tips & Warnings
During the days when you are sleeping, turn off your ringer on your phone.
Eat healthy so that your body can get enough vitamins and minerals.
Avoid drinking too much caffeine. If you do drink caffeine, avoid drinking it close to your end of shift, this will interfere with your sleep.
