The Better Business Bureau is a tremendous resource to ensure trust, and a good standing relationship between a business and the consumer. The BBBOnline is a resource where you can check out online businesses and websites that belong to the BBBOnline. You can see their BBB rating and any unresolved complaints that have been filed against their company. There is also a disclosure of any government involvement with the business (such as unfair, illegal, dishonest practices). This is a great way to check on an online business or website business you are looking to patronize but don't know much about.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log onto the BBB Online website (www.bbbonline.org see link below).

  2. Step 2

Once you are on the BBB Online website, you will see 2 options "For consumers" and "For businesses"

Click on: "For consumers" *you may need to click on "For consumers" again on the top left of the page*

  3. Step 3

You will see six boxes with options in them. Click on the first box that says: "check out a business or charity"

  4. Step 4

The next area will have a box that says: "Search for"- click in that box and type in the name of the company of the URL website address and click on "Search"

  5. Step 5

This will either bring you to the company or give you a list of companies. Click on the company you are looking for and you can scroll down and read the information and the BBB rating this company has earned. There will also be all the company contact information included.

Tips & Warnings
  • once you click on the company name, you can click on the "trusted link" to write a review, get more company information, and read other's reviews on the company.
  • Be cautious if you do business with a company who has a low BBB rating.

on 12/20/2008 Great tips - I should research certain companies before getting involved with them. I used to work for a company that had bad BBB ratings.
