Things You'll Need:
- Time
- Money
- Planning
-
Step 1
Keeping the best interest of each family member while on vacation is never an easy task. Adults like to do one thing, while the children want to do another thing. Door County, WI can create a happy medium while your on vacation for adult and child alike. Just read through the listing below and you will soon see that a family vacation with children doesn't HAVE to be boring.
-
Step 2
Topping the list of places to visit is Hands On Art Studio in Fish Creek, WI. They are open May-Oct everyday and Nov. thru April on the weekends. There is truly an activity for everyone in your family to create here. You pay a daily studio fee of $7.00 to use their tools and then pay for your materials separately.
Just a few of the items that you can do are ceramics, fused glass, lamp work, wood working, metal working and spin art t-shirts. They are always adding new projects to their extensive listing already.
If your project takes some special process such as firing of pottery, the project can be picked up the next day or else mailed directly to your door. -
Step 3
Have you ever bottle fed a goat or lamb? How about milked a goat or picked up a piglet? Here is your chance! The Farm is located in Sturgeon Bay on Hwy 57 and they are open from Memorial Day thru mid October.
-
Step 4
The Egg Harbor Fun Park located directly on Hwy 42 in Egg Harbor is a great place to stop for an hour. You can play 18 holes of mini golf or they have a huge game room, just incase your son or HUSBAND needs their weekend fix.
-
Step 5
Door County Confectionery on 3rd Ave in Sturgeon Bay, WI is the flagship store for the entire Door County Peninsulas Door County Confectionery stores. Watch candy makers during the week, mix up batches of homemade caramel and pour it on tables to set up. They also produce over 20 types of fudge as well as other chocolate goodies. Once in awhile they even have samples of sweet treats out.
-
Step 6
The Skyway Drive Inn Theatre located between Fish Creek and Ephraim provides double features nightly in the summer beginning at dusk. Usually, they provide one movie that is geared toward children and the second is geared toward adults. Enjoy onsite goodies to snack on.
-
Step 7
Tired of touring the peninsula and need to stop off for a bite to eat? PC Junction is the place to be. A little off the beaten path between Egg Harbor and Baileys Harbor and certainly a diamond in the rough.
Don't be shy here, belly up to the bar...or otherwise you will miss a great deal of the fun. This bar/restuarant has an atmosphere like no other place I have been. When your food is ready to be delivered the conductor yells out your food is on it way and a locomotion train delivers it directly to you. -
Step 8
Your trip is not complete without a trip to one of the state parks that grace the peninsula. There is Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek, Potawatomi State Park in St. Bay, Rock Island State Park (by ferry only) and White Fish Bay Dunes State Park in Jacksonport.
Out of all the parks if you only have time to visit one state park, make it Whitefish Dunes State Park in Jacksonport. The park is located on the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula and it is named for its white sand dunes. Hang out and play in the white sand or go for a dip in the lake.
