Blogger gadgets make using google blogger much easier for the beginner. Blogger is a free blogging software from google. Blogger themes can be difficult to customize if you don't know how to use html.

Blogger gadgets are comparable to the widgets used in wordpress. They can be used to rearrange your sidebar or even add a game to your blog.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Login to your blogger dashboard. Find the blog that you want to change around & click edit layout.

  2. Step 2

Click on Add a Gadget. Here you will see the basic gadgets like friends list & category labels.

The Followers gadget comes in handy if you're looking to build a loyal readership. Followers show pictures of people who have basically favorited your blog. This means that you will show up in their reading list. It's a fantastic way to turn a first time visitor into a regular reader.

  3. Step 3

Explore. There are categories on the widget screen that will take you to a lot of different games that you can install for free on your sidebar.

Other popular blogger gadgets are random quotes or pictures of the day. These can bring your reader's back daily to check out what is new. You can even add Skype or google talk.

  4. Step 4

One of the downsides to blogger is that there are just a few basic templates to choose from. If you are comfortable with html you can use a third party template. For a beginner, it is helpful to just rearrange the sidebar to give it a different look.

After you have the gadgets that you want to use, simply drag & drop them in the order that you want them to appear.

  5. Step 5

Double check your page after you have saved a new gadget. Many gadgets will cause your sidebar to be pushed further down on the page because they are too big.

To fix this, go back to your sidebar & find the new gadget. There should be an edit link underneath it. Click on this & then you can change the height of the gadget, but not usually the width.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid gadgets that will automatically play music or start talking. These annoy some blog visitors.
