Long eyelashes

Long, thick, curly eyelashes are something that most women would love to have. If you're not blessed with naturally long eyelashes, here's a few tips to help yours appear longer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find the perfect mascara for your needs. This can be a bit of trial and error, but will be worth it in the end. Some women desire more fullness, so "plumping" mascaras are what they should try out. If you're looking to add length, try L'Oreal's Double Extend mascara. This two-part system has a nourishing base coat and colored top coat. The end result is tiny "tubes" that envelop and lengthen each lash. The tubes wash off easily with warm water and soap.

  2. Step 2

Take your time applying mascara. Proper application of mascara starts at the base of your lashes and goes all the way out. Some women make the mistake of just brushing the tips, which gives an awkward, "end-heavy" result.

  3. Step 3

Pick a good mascara brush. A good mascara brush will have very short bristles. Shorter bristles give better coverage, because they get between and around lashes better. Better coverage means more appearance of longer eyelashes.

  4. Step 4

Use false eyelashes. Oprah has opening admitted that she has naturally short eyelashes, and uses false lashes every day. You don't have to splurge on expensive ones to get a good effect. Oprah herself has said that she prefers and uses lashes from Walgreen's to make her eyelashes appear longer.

  5. Step 5

Get lash extensions. Expensive-but-effective, eyelash extensions give the wearer the appearance of having naturally long lashes. Having the lash extensions attached takes a couple of hours, and costs upwards of $150 (check your local area for accurace prices). Extensions tend to last about 2-3 months.

  6. Step 6

Go natural. Try one of the natural wives-tale remedies to try to spur your own lashes to grow on their own. Rub a drop or two of castor oil or extra virgin olive oil on your lashes each night before you go to bed. Leave on over night, and wash off in the morning. A lot of women swear by this method, saying their lashes grew considerably after doing it for several months.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't sleep with false lashes on. Your natural lashes and eyelids need to breathe. Remove false lashes with a mineral oil based makeup remover.

on 11/16/2008 Both my sister and I were blessed with naturally long lashes, but she wants to try things to grow them even longer. I told her she'll have to braid them if trying growth enhancements goes wrong! I'll reluctantly tell her about the oils.

on 11/15/2008 Hi Cyn, I will have to try the olive oil. I don't know why I haven't thought of it. I use olive oil as a hot oil treatment on my hair once a month.
