Things You'll Need:
- You
- The baby
- Some patience
-
Step 1
Check baby. The obvious first step is to make sure the baby is fed, changed, and burped. If you feel the baby is making more of a fuss than usual it's probably because a little bubble inside is dying to get out. Burping takes patience, three pats won't do :)
-
Step 2
Ignore baby? Ok, let's get to the juicy info. The secret is to not pay attention to the baby. No eye contact, No talking directly to the baby, and DEFINETLY no nagging like "why won't you go to sleeeeep".
-
Step 3
Act calmly and IGNORE the baby's crying. You can pat the baby while looking away, sing softly to yourself, in a calm voice... Don't make it a competition. If the baby is crying and you're singing, keep singing in a low calm tone even if it's drowning you out. It will eventually mesmerize the baby and he/she will quiet down. (This is cosidering that baby is not uncomfortable nor hurt, example dirty diaper).
-
Step 4
Why do you ignore the baby? Attention is reward. No attention acts like a punishment. If their crying is not getting them attention they will eventually stop. Another reason is that you acting calmly and looking away let's the baby feel a transition. This induces the feeling in the baby that it is not time to play or interact. It's time to doze off.
-
Step 5
Hypnotize baby. If singing and patting do not work after three minutes, try this. Get something and act very interested in it whilst still ignoring the baby. Here's a great example: Take a necklace that dangles and sway it back and forth out of reach of the baby and say softly to yourself "woowww how interesting, look at this..." just keep talking softly to yourself. (The baby doesn't understand, you can even talk softly about things you have to get done that day) The stress is on the monotonous and calm constant talking. Resist looking at the baby and reacting to him/her.
-
Step 6
Be patient with the baby, The first time it may take a while. But the more you try this technique the faster it works each time.
-
Step 7
Please leave feedback and let me know if this technique was helpful for you. :) thanks a lot
