Find a Free Debt Management Program

In today's economy, just about all of us are in debt up to our elbows. We owe for credit cards, student loans, mortgages, home equity lines, etc. Just to make ends meet, some of us have had to take on part time jobs or do serious cut-backs. However, what many have found is that this simply isn’t enough to keep our heads about water. So, what should we do? Give up and admit defeat? Absolutely not! We must find a free debt management program and stick to it like glue until our debts are paid in full. In this article, I’ll teach you how to do just that. Let’s get started.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Understand how free debt management programs work. A debt management program is a program that is typically administered by a non-profit organization. It is a spending or money management plan combined with debt consolidation. That is, your financial counselor takes a look at your existing income, debt and everyday expenses. He then devises a budget to allocate how to allocate your money on a monthly basis so that you get out of debt sooner. In addition, most financial counselors will also negotiate with creditors on your behalf to eliminate late fees and get you lower interest rates. In some instances, your debt management program counselor can also negotiate for a lower settlement amount. You then pay a certain amount to the debt management program company and they disburse your consolidated payment to various creditors in accordance with your agreement. Now, we’ll discuss how to find a free debt management program.

  2. Step 2

Ask someone you trust for a referral. One of the best ways to find a free debt management program is to ask your friends and family members for help. You’ll be surprised but many people have had debt problems in the past and were smart enough to get help. By asking those you care about, you will get unbiased and useful information to help you make an informed decision.

  3. Step 3

Search online. The Internet is a great source to find quality free debt management programs to help you effectively manage your debt. To find suitable companies, go to the major search engines and type “debt management programs”, “free debt management help”, etc. Be careful however there are quite a few shady companies listed as well. To make sure that you’ve found a reputable one, check their online reputation and also check the Better Business Bureau to make sure that no complaints have been filed against them. If you find that there are complaints, look elsewhere.

  4. Step 4

Check the newspaper. You’ll be surprised but many free debt management programs exist. You simply have to look in the newspaper in the classified section and you’ll find a host of companies that off a free debt consultation. Well, take them up on their offer. Give them a call and see what they have to offer, you may just be pleasantly surprised to find one that is able to suit your individual needs.

  5. Step 5

Turn on the radio. Just about every radio station has an advertisement for a free debt management program. By listening carefully and having some pen and paper handy, you can get some great leads. Just make sure that you choose a program that is non profit as it won’t be worth your time or effort to choose a company that charges a large monthly fee for their services. After all, you need more money to go toward paying off your debts instead of lining the pockets of the debt management firm.

  6. Step 6

In conclusion, debt is nothing to be ashamed of and most people have acquired some debt in their lives. The good news is that you don’t have to hide your head in the sand. You can get help from a free debt management program. To do so, simply understand what a debt management program entails, ask someone your trust for a referral, search for firms online, on the radio and in the paper and then research them to make sure they are reputable. You’ll soon discover the perfect one for your needs. Good luck!
