Think taking a short, two minute shower can't be done? Think only men can take the two minute shower because they don't have the hygiene "stuff" that women have? Think again. ANYONE can take a two minute shower and save money and conserve water, all at the same time. Here's how.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

LADIES, SHAVE YOUR LEGS OUTSIDE OF THE SHOWER: Shaving in the shower adds a tremendous amount of time, and wastes a lot more water, than shaving outside the shower.

  2. Step 2

COMB OUT YOUR HAIR: If you have moderate to long hair, comb it out before stepping into the shower. It'll wash easier, and be easier to manage when you get out of the shower again.

  3. Step 3

ADJUST YOUR WATER TEMP FIRST: Get the water temperature where you want before getting into the shower so you don't have to fiddle with it much while you're in there. BUT, don't leave it running while you shave your legs, face, or take care of any other hygiene; it's a HUGE waste of money and water !

  4. Step 4

GET MOVING: Most people's first inclination in the shower is to just stand and soak up the warm water. I admit, it does feel good, especially if you have any aches or pains. But, by doing so you're running gallons of water down the drain and wasting time, water, and MONEY ! Get in, grab the soap and get cleaning !

  5. Step 5

UTILIZE GOOD HAIR WASHING STRATEGIES: If you're bald, or have ultra short hair, then hair is not a money and water waster for you. If you have moderate to long hair, then there's where your money is going down the shower drain. Consider using a combination shampoo and conditioner to combine two steps into one. Or, if you do use both; use about 1/2 teaspoon of each. Most people make the mistake of using far too much shampoo (especially) and conditioner which is totally unnecessary and also takes a lot more water to rinse out.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to be a bit more resourceful if you have very long, or very thick hair.

on 12/4/2008 I really like the idea about not using a lot of shampoo. I do it all the time and then think, "Why did I do that?" It sure wastes a lot of water trying to get it all out. Thanks for the reminder.

on 11/25/2008 Great tips! Many people have also switched to the type shower head that you can turn off while lathering the body and/or hair. That way you don't have to adjust the temp again and water isn't going down the drain while doing these tasks.
