It is often tempting to eat junk food while watching TV. Grabbing a bag of potato chips or a bowl of ice cream to eat provides comfort as we relax in front of the TV. However, eating junk food while watching TV can quickly add up to some serious overeating. Avoid eating junk food while watching TV and you’ll avoid gaining weight. Here are some tips on how to avoid eating junk food while watching TV.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • determination
  • TV
  • healthy food
  • exercise equipment (optional)
  1. Step 1

Your first line of defense against eating junk food should be to exercise as you watch TV. Exercising is a good way to stay busy as you watch TV and keep from eating junk food. Whether it’s in the form of cardio or strength training, exercise will help you avoid the junk and avoid gaining weight. Burn enough calories and you’ll not just avoid gaining weight—you’ll lose weight and gain a healthy body!

  2. Step 2

Too tired to exercise? Got the munchies? Then go ahead and eat, but keep healthy food choices on hand to avoid eating junk food while watching TV. Put these healthy food choices in highly visible areas in your kitchen. Keep junk food hidden away in hard-to-reach places. By replacing junk food with healthy food choices, you’ll avoid gaining weight and give your body the nutrients it needs. A healthy body needs good nutrition!

  3. Step 3

Still craving junk food? As you watch TV, make note of the thin people. Noticing how thin someone is on TV can sometimes be a great motivator not to eat junk food. Reflect on what that person likely does to maintain that beautiful figure. Is sitting in front of the TV eating junk food going to give you that kind of healthy body? Thinking about the realities of what it takes to have a healthy body is a good way to avoid mindless snacking on junk food while watching TV. Avoid gaining weight with purposeful thinking!
