How to Clean an Interlocking Foam Rubber Floor Mat

The newest thing in flooring is interlocking foam matting and they are making a splash in homes everywhere. They are also used in exercise studios, martial arts studios, garages and even outdoors. They are becoming very popular in daycare centers because they are soft and extremely easy to clean. Liquids will not soak into the mat, which means bacteria will not grow inside of them. Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum the mat. Test a panel with the vacuum to make sure it doesn't scratch the surface of the mat. Usually using the extension hose with a floor piece on the end will do fine for cleaning the mat.

    • 2

Clean them with a bucket of warm water and an antibacterial household cleaner. Use a mop and damp mop the entire mat. This is the best way to clean them if you are using the mats for exercise or daycare for children. The water will not soak into the mat and the antibacterial cleaner will take care of any germs before they get a chance to spread.

    • 3

Spot clean with warm water and soap. Use any type household cleaning soap and a scrubby. Scrub the area clean, wipe down with a rag and clean warm water. Let the mat dry before using again.

    • 4

Sweep off dirt, dust and animal fur with a soft-bristled broom. If it's a small section, wipe it down after sweeping with a rag and warm water. If it's a large area or full room mat, use a sponge type mop and warm water.

Nice article! I like these mats a lot. One question: will water seep into the cracks between mats?
