People put way to much emphasis on keyword research and seo. The most common mistake is to target the same keywords with your article as you do with your website. If you can't get your website ranked for these keywords than how is your article going to rank.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

If you were doing a search for the topic you are going to write about. What search terms would you use? Write down a list of search terms you would use.

  2. Step 2

Go to adwords.google.com and select tools>keyword tool. Type in your search terms you wrote one by one. This will give you an idea of other keywords, how often they are searched, and how much competition there is for that particular keyword.

  3. Step 3

Pick about three keywords with the highest amount of searches, and lowest amount of competition. I normally pick two long key phrases, and the main keyword that my website is targeting.

  4. Step 4

Write your article around these keywords or key phrases. By selecting two less popular key phrases your article will rank high when someone performs this search. As you continue to write articles, continue to pick two key phrases and the main keyword. This will bring you a good deal of targeted traffic, and help your site to rank higher in search results.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a keyword density of between 1% to 3%, just do a google search for cut and paste keyword density checker to check your keyword density.
  • Always track your visitors where they come from, how long they stay, how many pages they view per visit. You can track all of these and more for free with google analytics. Learn how to improve these results and apply them to your website.
