Texas sheet cake is my mothers favorite and a great dessert for potlucks!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 teaspoon cocoa
  • 11x17 sheet pan
  1. Step 1

    Mix water and cocoa together and set aside.

  2. Step 2

    In a sauce pan mix together flour, sugar, baking soda.
    eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk. Bring to a boil.

  3. Step 3

    Remove from heat and mix the water and cocoa to the mixture in the sauce pan.

  4. Step 4

    Pour the cake mix into a 11 x 17 inch sheet

  5. Step 5

    Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees or until a toothpick placed in the center comes out clean.

  6. Step 6

    Frost the cake while it is still warm.

  7. Step 7

    Frosting can be made with:
    1/2 cup butter
    6 teaspoon milk
    4 tablespoons cocoa
    3 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla

    Boil butter, milk, and cocoa. Remove from heat and add to powdered suagr and vanilla.

  8. Step 8

    For birthdays or other holiday get together this cake is great to be decorated with sprinkles or other goodies. Cover uneaten cake tightly with plastic to ensure freshness.

on 3/20/2009 I tried this recipe tonight...I've made the Texas sheet cake before, compared this with other recipes for it, ingrediant are the same, method is TOTALLY different and DOES NOT work. The minute you add all that flour
