Download a free recording program, there are many on the web. Find these programs by searching "free recording software" in your favorite search engine. One example would be "Audacity" which is free.

2
Buy a microphone from your local retail store. They usually start at $10. You can buy the USB type or the standard audio jack type, either should work fine. You would be surprised how good the quality can be of even the cheapest current computer mics.

Open your recording software and press record, its usually the red button as in VCR's etc. After recording save your file as a ".wav" or ".mp3" if you wish.

For better sound quality record while approx 6 inches from mic.
Place mic in sturdy fixture rather than holding while recording.
