Making paper chains for Christmas is a great pastime for children. Perhaps now as an adult you would like something a little more elegant to adorn your home this Christmas. This elegant paper chain garland uses pretty shiny decorated paper instead of construction paper. Hang the garlands in your front windows or wind them around your tree for a sophisticated charm.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12-by-12 inch shiny double sided scrapbook paper (print on one side, plain on the other) Double sided tape Scissors Ruler Pencil
  1. Step 1

Fold a piece of paper in half. Cut along the folded edge so you have two sheets of paper each measuring 6 by 12 inches. Lay the cut sheets of paper on top of each other.

  2. Step 2

Using the ruler and pencil, mark off 12 strips measuring 1 inch wide. Cut through both sheets of paper along the pencil marks. You now have 24 strips of paper, each measuring 6 by 1 inch. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to make as many strips of paper as desired.

  3. Step 3

Place a piece of double sided tape on one end of a strip of paper. Form a loop by curling the other end over and adhering it to the taped end. Place a piece of tape on one end of another strip of paper, insert the end through the first loop and join the ends of the second loop together. You now have two interlocking loops. Alternate the patterned and solid sides of the strips when forming the loops. Repeat this step for as many strips of paper needed to form the length of garland.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use red and green shiny scrapbook paper and alternate colors when making the garland. Cut out smaller or larger strips of paper for a variation.
