Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Latch hook canvas Photo Masking tape Sharpie marker Ruler White paper Colored pencils, crayons or markers
  1. Step 1

Choose a photo or design and canvas for the project. Using a copy machine to enlarge or reduce the design or sketch the design on paper, sizing it to fit the canvas.

  2. Step 2

Stretch the canvas out on a table and tape it in place leaving one side untaped. (The canvas must be flat in order to transfer the design.) Measure from side to side and top to bottom, using the ruler, and mark the center of the canvas. Measure your design the same way and mark its center.

  3. Step 3

Slide the design under the canvas and place the center mark on the design under the center mark on the canvas. Trace the design onto the canvas, and then set the canvas aside.

  4. Step 4

Using the photo or picture you selected as a color guide, color the paper design. (This will serve as a guide for selecting yarn for the project.

  5. Step 5

Number the sections of the paper design to help you produce the project. Shading can be easily accomplished by using a value scale of light, middle and dark values. For example, a green leaf would start with a middle value of medium green. Highlighted areas would be represented by light green and shadowed areas would be represented by dark green.
