It may seem impossible to improve search engine rankings, with all of the garbage floating around the internet. Improving search engine rankings is actually easy, with a little patience and organization.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A website or web page to promote
  • common sense
  • patience
  • organization
  1. Step 1

To improve search engine rankings you must first learn how a search engine works. A search engine has one goal, which is to provide surfers with the best and most relevant content for a given search term.

I'm going to explain google as this is the most popular search engine.

  2. Step 2

There are many ways that google measures a websites relevancy, but the most important are website popularity, and content relevancy.

Google measures a websites popularity by the number of google indexed links that point to the site. Many people will tell you to throw up a link anywhere you can, to improve search engine rankings, this is un-true. Google has the ability to go into detail as to measure how important backlinks are. Your links should be on sites relevant to your own, and the link must be indexed by google to count as a backlink.

  3. Step 3

The second and equally important process google uses to rank your website is content relevancy. You have probably already heard that you should have keyword rich content on your website.

Normally a website will target about ten keywords or search terms that the webmaster would like the site to show up for in search resulsts. Google measures the keyword density of your site, which is the ratio of keywords to the total content.

Google doesn't explain what keyword density is best but it is thought to be between 1% and 3%. This means that your keywords should be between one to three percent of the total word count of a web page.

  4. Step 4

Once you have keyword rich content, and found relevant site to link to yours now I will explain the part that most all of this garbage on the web never mentions.

Google follows your visitors once they click on your site. They measure how many pages your visitors view as-well as how long your visitors stays on your site. Obviously the longer and more pages per visit the more popular your site appears to be according to google.

Create an account with google analytics, this will provide you with reports about your sites visitor's. Learn what each of these reports mean and what you can do to improve them. Just in case you are missing the point here: Google is providing you with a free tool to measure different areas of your sites visitors, google measures what your sites visitors are doing in order to decide the importance of your site.

You need to be focusing on google analytics reports very thoroughly, to improve search engine rankings.

Tips & Warnings
  • To quickly pick up links to your site, you can purchase them from sites like textlinkads.com
  • Find sites closely related to your own and place a link on one of your pages, then email the webmaster. Explain why you liked their site and that you have posted a link, than request that they view yours and place your link on their website.
  • A quick way to promote your site and build backlinks at the same time is to hire a freelancer to write articles for you. You can find freelancers on sites such as Ifreelance.com & bizreef.com.
