1. When selecting plants to purchase, buy plants that have a lot of unopened buds. This will ensure maximum enjoyment of your mums after you make your purchase. Because mums bloom for only a short time, plants in full bloom at the time of purchase will be a disappointment when you get them home.

2. Next, select the best location for your mums. Whether planting in containers or in the ground, be sure to place the mums in a sunny location. Keep the soil moist, but be careful not to over water.

3. Deadhead by pinching off old flowers. This will help the plant direct its energy into new blooms rather than old flowers.
