Mums can add beauty to an otherwise boring fall landscape. With so many colors to choose from and the immaculate display of flowers mums provide, it's no wonder that they're a fall garden favorite. Keep reading to find out how to get the best possible show from your mums.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

When selecting plants to purchase, buy plants that have a lot of unopened buds. This will ensure maximum enjoyment of your mums after you make your purchase. Because mums bloom for only a short time, plants in full bloom at the time of purchase will be a disappointment when you get them home.

  2. Step 2

Next, select the best location for your mums. Whether planting in containers or in the ground, be sure to place the mums in a sunny location. Keep the soil moist, but be careful not to over water.

  3. Step 3

Deadhead by pinching off old flowers. This will help the plant direct its energy into new blooms rather than old flowers.

on 11/18/2008 I never pinch off the dead flowers! Maybe that's why they look so yucky after a few weeks! I'll try it! Good tips!

on 11/14/2008 Simple and easy to understand tips. Buying budded up mums vs. fully blooming (almost done blooming) mums is great advice.
