Step 1
Think about what your significant other talked about this year. Was there anything in particular that they wanted? If so, use that as the basis of choosing your gift. Remember, just because you don't think what they want is a fun gift does not mean that it's not right for your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife.
-
Step 2
Don't get stuck shopping only in the category of romantic gifts. If your significant other wants a new lawn mower, than go for it! They will appreciate it because they can use it.
-
Step 3
Stay away from gifts that are only appealing because they're cute. You may be tempted to get the tie-dyed toe socks as a present for your significant other, but if they're going to sit in a drawer forever, they are not worth buying.
-
Step 4
Consider purchasing gifts that come throughout the year, like a subscription to a Beer of the Month Club, Wine of the Month club, or even Hot Sauce of the Month club. This gives your significant other something to look forward to all year, and this will serve as a reminder of how much you care about each other all year long.
-
Step 5
Don't be afraid of choosing practical gifts. If money is tight, buy essentials as gifts. Even things that are as simple as a new work shirt can be exciting if you really need one.
-
Step 6
If you can, personalize the gift you purchase for your significant other. If you buy your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife or husband an MP3 player, pre-load it with your significant other's favorite songs.
-
Step 7
Whatever you buy, keep in mind that the gift for your significant other, not for you. Just because you would like a new set of cookware in pink does not mean that your significant other will appreciate that too.

on 11/14/2008 Good ideas. Paying attention all year is the easiest way to know what to get them, yet the hardest thing because you have to remember! 5*

on 11/14/2008 Heh! If I get my significant other a lawn mower, she'll be getting me a divorce ;-) But these are great suggestions all around. Thanks.
