  1. Step 1
    Caulking trim
     
    Caulking trim

    First of all,strip any wallpaper from your walls and clean off all the paste,with a sponge and some hot water.Spackle or skim coat the walls for any small gouges or holes.Caulk all baseboards,door trims and window trims with painters caulk.Prime any areas needed with primer or a flat paint.

  2. Step 2
    Rolling out  walls

    Pick a paint color that is lighter and Earthy.The lighter the color the more light the room really has.First paint the ceiling in a ceiling white.Then cut in wall color and roll walls.two coats is usually necessary.Paint baseboards,door trim and window trims with a semi-gloss paint and coat twice.

  3. Step 3
    Switches and Outlets
     
    Switches and Outlets

    Replace all old switches,receptacles and cover plates.turn power off when working with electric.Update the house with some Dimmer switches if desired.Maybe a new window covering?

  4. Step 4
    New light fixture
     
    New light fixture

    Replace old light fixtures.Once again turn power off when working with electric.You can Finish this project yourself in a weekend.It will turn an old ugly room into something very new and up to date,while increasing the value of your home for only a few hundred bucks.You would be amazed by the transformation for so little.

  • Always use drop cloths when painting
