Step 1
How to wear fishnet stockings - Coordinate your clothing with your hose.
When wearing fishnet stockings, opt for a monochromatic look. Pair black fishnet stockings with a black skirt or pants to keep the look more sedate and elegant. Finish the look off with a closed toe shoe with a moderate heel. Never wear fishnet stockings with a print fabric to avoid looking too “busy” and overdone. -
Step 2
How to wear fishnet stockings - Choose appropriate clothing.
To avoid looking inappropriate, select the clothing you wear with fishnet stockings wisely. For a conservative office setting, it may be best to stick to wearing your stockings with long pants to add just a hint of style and texture to your feet. If you opt to wear them with a skirt, choose a longer skirt that covers the knee. Fishnet stockings and a short skirt may send out the wrong message about your taste and judgment. -
Step 3
How to wear fishnet stockings - Choose appropriate shoes.
Fishnet stockings make a strong fashion statement. To avoid looking overdone, wear your fishnet stockings with a more conservative shoe, particularly for daytime wear. Fishnet stockings with ultra high heels can give the wrong impression, particularly in a conservative environment. -
Step 4
How to wear fishnet stockings - Choose your mesh.
The mesh of a fishnet stocking refers to the size of the holes in the stocking. Larger mesh stockings, as a generalization, are inappropriate for daytime wear. The small mesh stockings with tiny holes make a more sedate and acceptable daytime fashion statement. Unless you're going to a costume party, stick with the small mesh fishnet stockings. -
Step 5
How to wear fishnet stockings - Choose an appropriate color.
While fishnet stockings are being shown in a variety of bright colors, this look is very difficult to wear successfully even at night. With some of the bright colors being shown, you can end up looking like you're attending a costume party rather than a serious event. Opt for fishnet stockings in dark, neutral shades such as brown and black for a more appropriate look. Save the bright shades of fishnet stockings for next Halloween.

on 1/3/2009 Hi Kristie, I wear fishnets to work a lot in the fall and winter usually black or beige usually with a knee-length skirt and heels or a below-the-knee skirt and boots showing an inch or so of my fishnets. I work with a lot of men and they do get noticed a lot LOL. Work can be boring at times and it's nice to feel and look a little sexy.
