Determine what elements of your wedding you must-have and those that you can live without. Make a list of all of everything from the engagement party to the honeymoon in your notes so you can begin placing the important stuff in a column under "must-have" and the others in the "can live without" column. Go through all of your elements and focus on your must-haves first.

Look at wedding essentials like your venue, wedding gown and reception as areas where you can be creative and non-traditional. Purchase your wedding gown from a vintage shop or consignment boutique where you are more likely to get a gently-used gown for a fraction of the price of a new one. Buy a white dress from your local department store and add elements such as a rhinestone broach or a colored sash to make it your own.

Hold your wedding ceremony and wedding reception at the same venue. Some neighborhoods that have clubhouses allow residents to reserve it free of charge or for a small free. Ask around to see if anyone you know has access to such a place. Or, host your event in a park or one of your friends' or family member's home.
