Removing crayon stains from wallpaper can be a bit more challenging than removing crayon stains from painted walls. For one thing, you can't just paint over the stain, and you can't use any abrasives in your line of attack. But with a little (well, a lot actually) patience and the right household chemicals you can usually restore the surface to its pre-crayon glory.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • paper towels
  • WD40
  • 2-3 Mr Clean Magic Erasers
  • lighter fluid
  • Spray 'n Wash or Shout
  • bathroom soapscum removing product
  • patience
  1. Step 1

You may not need all the products listed above. To begin, spray WD40 directly on the stained area of wallpaper. Let the cleaner sit for a minute or two on the crayon mark before wiping with paper towels.

  2. Step 2

Gently wipe crayon stained area with a paper towel. Dab at first, and if that does not clean the area well enough, wipe in small circles. Be careful not to cause any more damage to the wallpaper. Avoid making broad swipes as that can spread the stain to more areas of the wallpaper.

  3. Step 3

If the WD40 does not do the trick, wipe the area with plain water to remove the WD40 residue. When the wallpaper is completely dry, repeat the above procedure with the different chemicals listed. If you are using Magic Erasers, you won't need paper towels.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your success at removing crayon stains from wallpaper will depend on the texture of the surface, the size of the stain, how hard the crayon was pressed into the wall, and the brand of crayon.
  • Cheap crayons contain more wax and less pigment than expensive crayons, and their stains are more easily removed.
