How to Create an Elegant Table Setting On a Budget

You don't need to have the finest china dishes to create an elegant and enjoyable atmosphere at your dinner table. There are simple and inexpensive things you can do to increase the aesthetic beauty of your dining room and table setting.

Instructions

1. Most of us have plates and bowls from several different sets. The colors and styles don't match. Buy a new set of tableware that has matching patterns. You can buy them as a package in any department store or even go to a dollar store and find several of the same plates and cups. If you buy a package set, buy two so that you have extra if anything breaks or you have more quests than you anticipate.

2. 

   Buy matching glasses. Buy extra or a set with a different style so that you have an extra set if something breaks.

3. Choose between using a table cloth or place mats. Use a table cloth or place mats with a solid color that matchers your dining room's decor or your dining room chairs.

4. 

   Buy a set of reusable napkins. Choose a color that looks great with your place mats or table cloth. Choosing white ensures that it will match with any color, even if you get a new table cloth of a different color.

5. Decorate your dining room with artwork. Choose peaceful images that you enjoy such as lakes, oceans, or mountain ranges. You can blow up photos that you have taken to add a more personalized touch. Use the same picture frame for each piece.

6. If you use candles, don't use scented ones. They will distract from the enjoyment of the tastes and flavor of your food.

   Pick a centerpiece that complements the table setting theme and color. Make sure it isn't so tall that you can't see your family member on the other side. It should be eye catching but not distracting.

8. Only use your best plates and silverware for special events, dinner parties, and family dinners. If you have a family dinner night once a week, use your new set of dishes. If you want to consistently have symmetry in your dining room, buy extras of everything or an additional set with a different style.

9. You can start by going to your local dollar store or department store for these items. Remember, creating elegance doesn't require a full wallet. It requires creativity and a sense of symmetry and design.
