Step 1
Soil should be porous loam with fine peat or leaf mold and sand added.
-
Step 2
Soil should be kept only slightly damp. Don't over water and avoid wetting the foliage when watering.
-
Step 3
These plants are susceptible to mealy bugs and red spiders. For mealy bugs, dip a cotton ball in alcohol and touch each insect with it. For red spiders, dust with sulphur.
-
Step 4
Most types of this plant like to be kept moderately cool and in a humid atmosphere. Avoid drafts and sudden changes.
-
Step 5
Partial sun for most types is the rule of thumb. Some do well in north light, but the flowering types will not bloom too heavily.
-
Step 6
For ever blooming types, take stem cuttings, root in clean sand, then shift to pots. Foliage type begonias can be started by pinning a mature leaf down on damp sand after cutting across it underneath at several vein junctures. New plants form at junctures.
