HOW TO COOK A GOOD STEAK WITHOUT OVER COOKING IT.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • OVEN
  • FRYING PAN OR WHAT EVER WAY YOU COOK A STEAK.
  1. Step 1

Although you can use an ordinary frying pan to cook your steak, you might find that you prefer to use an iron skillet. Iron skillets retain heat well, are not prone to warping or losing their shape, and clean up nicely. Prepare your steak according to a recipe that you have located, the directions on a bottle of marinade, or the directions provided in this article. Once the steak has been prepared, cook it as follows

  2. Step 2

Preheat the skillet until it is smoking hot. Carefully place the steak into the skillet making sure that your hand does not come into contact with it. Exercise caution and watch out for hot splattering from the pan. Sear the steak for approximately two to three minutes. Using tongs, turn the steak onto its other side. Again, allow the steak to sear on this side for approximately two to three minutes. Using the tongs, sear the sides of the steak briefly for about a minute.

  3. Step 3

Never use a fork to turn the meat that you are cooking. This practice would allow valuable juices to escape from the meat, causing it not only to lose flavor, but also to lose moisture. In fact, never puncture a steak with either a fork or knife to test it to see if it is done cooking. If you do not have a pair of tongs, you can use a food flipper to lift and turn it.

Tips & Warnings
  • The proper way to check the steak to see if it is cooked thoroughly is to press down on it with the tongs to see how much resistance you get. If the meat is hard, you have cooked it for too long and it might not be as tasty as you would like it to be. If the steak gives a slight bit of resistance, then it is probably raw or rare. If the steak is firm to the touch, then it is medium rare and ready to eat. Remember to avoid piercing the meat. Some recipes and directions might suggest that you pierce the meat to see if the juices that flow from the meat are clear. As mentioned above, this practice will release valuable flavoring and moisture.
  • AGAIN NEVER USE A FORK TO FLIP OVER A STEAK. ENJOY
