How to Change The Default Program That Runs a File in Windows Xp

You want your pictures to open in your favorite photo editor, but instead they open in an internet page. This article will show you how to open a file automatically in the program you want it to run in.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Windows xp
  1. Step 1

    Click on My Computer and select Folder - Options

  2. Step 2

    In this example, we will change .jpg files to open in mspaint. Find the file type you want to change and click the change button.

  3. Step 3

    Now select the program you want to open the .jpg type files with. In this case mspaint was selected and the checkbox at the bottom was checked to always open the file with mspaint.

    Click ok, and your finished. When you double click a .jpg file, it will open in mspaint.

  4. Step 4

    Here is alternative way to do the same thing as above.

    Right click on a file with the extension type you want to change and select "Open with - Choose Program" and follow step 3.
