Things You'll Need:
- Notebook and pen
- Glass of water
- Dream!
-
Step 1
Before you can interpret your dreams, you must remember them. One way to remember dreams is to commit to yourself that you will write them down as soon as you wake up. Keep a notebook and pen next to your bed. As soon as you wake up, write down anything and everything you remember. Don't worry about spelling or grammer - this is only for you.
Still having trouble remembering your dreams? Drink a glass of water right before you go to bed. You will wake up from a dream state to use the bathroom - take that notebook with you and write! -
Step 2
Now that you've captured some dreams, the work begins. First, think of how you felt when you woke up - did you have a specific feeling? Did you feel content, scared, anxious, excited, or happy? That feeling is likely a good overall sense of the dream.
-
Step 3
Now take specific images from the dream and think about what the image symbolizes in your life. Symbols are a very individual thing. For instance, Parmesan cheese may symbolize a secret richness to me while to you it symbolizes an old smell. Brainstorm on the symbols. Any and all ideas are possible and acceptable.
-
Step 4
People are symbols also. What does that person mean to you? Do you admire that person´s independence? Does that person remind you of yourself as a child? A person in a dream doesn´t necessarily represent that person in real life- in a dream a person is symbolizing his or her meaning to you.
-
Step 5
Finally, pull it all together. Can you tell a story using the symbols you have identified? Is the dream suggesting you will only get richness in life if you become more independent? There are no wrong answers - again, this is a YOUR story - very individual. What story feels right to you?

on 11/16/2008 Cool article. I don't dream often, but when I do, it's always a very curious collection of symbols and feelings. Thanks for giving a bit of guide to finding their meaning.
