Things You'll Need:
- a basic understanding of hypermiling
- to read the terms and definations
- to put the terms into practice
-
Step 1
When possible, don't drive. Walk, bike, take the bus or other public transportation system, or carpool when ever possible. This will of course save you money and preserve the environment as well.
-
Step 2
Plan your route. Literally plan your route (on paper if needed). Start with the farthest distance from your current location and work your way back to home. Think of stops you can make on the way to another such as stop at the bank on the way home from the store. A little pre planning will save you a lot of gas money and time.
-
Step 3
Do not run the air conditioning. Unless it is awfully hot, just put the windows down. This can save you 10-30% on your fuel cost. If you need to run your a/c, run it as low as possible.
-
Step 4
Be aware while driving. Look ahead to lights coming up. If you see a stale green light, prepare a head of time to stop slowly instead of slamming on the breaks at the last second. Look for up coming hills (downward) that you will be able to coast and take your foot off the accelerator all together. Always be aware of ways you can make better choices to get the very best fuel economy possible.
